Book review: Secrets of a Beauty Queen

Words by Veronica Stanford

Shhhhh.

Part-memoir, part-guidebook, Secrets of a Beauty Queen sees accomplished beauty journalist, Stephanie Darling, recount her years of first-class travel, plastic surgery and work at the likes of Vogue.

And while it’s undeniable she’s had an exciting career, it’s also one that’s likely to leave her out of touch with readers.

With snippets like “if you look groomed and polished you will always have the first impression advantage,” the book comes off outdated.

Admittedly, Darling is trying to present a not-too-serious look into the world of beauty, but it’s left me feeling disappointed that advice like hers is still valued in 2018.
