Book review: 100 Aussie Things We Know and Love

WORDS BY TARA SMITH

Why magpies attack and who’s to blame for ugg boots.

100 Aussie Things We Know and Love by Bunny Banyai puts the Australian way of life under a microscope and then proceeds to make a mockery of it.

The book is a hilarious guide to everything quintessentially Australian: fairy bread, Akubras, and yep, Kath & Kim. It’s a great travel companion if you ever get a bout of homesickness abroad, or just need a refresher on Australian idioms back home.

The book is conveniently split up into digestible chapters covering Australian royalty (Shane Warne), on-screen references (Neighbours) and all the stuff from New Zealand we claim as our own (Crowded House).

With satirical facts like why magpies attack and who’s to blame for ugg boots, 100 Aussie Things We Know and Love references all the little things that make this nation so great.

And they say Australians have no culture.
