We’ve reached the future, brands are now 3D-printing clothes

Well, runners at least.

The future is nigh. It’s now possible to 3D-print clothes.

Last year, a design student 3D-printed her entire graduate collection. Now, New Balance is releasing its first 3D-printed commercial running shoe.

The world-first shoe features a fully 3D-printed midsole, with hundreds of small, open cells providing cushioning and structure.

Apparently New Balance has been using this technology for years, to customise products for professional athletes. So it’s finally the public’s turn.

With fellow players Nike and adidas to follow suit, there’s a real possible shift towards 3D-printed fashion for the future.

3D printers have been used to print human organs, houses and cars already, so a jump to the fashion industry isn’t such a big leap.

A world where clothes are printed at the touch of a button, it sounds more like a Stanley Kubrick plotline than reality.

Who knows, maybe one day we’ll be able to download a full wardrobe online.
