Marimekko celebrates SS16 collection and creative director Anna Teurnell’s debut

We like where this is going.

A lot has been happening behind the scenes of Nordic brand Marikmekko.

They just hosted their spring/summer press preview at the Sydney Opera House, celebrating the release of their latest range and giving praise to newly appointed creative director Anna Teurnell for her debut collection.

Anna can now add Marimekko’s colourful visionary to her already superior porfolio (inlcuding design director at H&M and head of design at & Other Stories). After a lifetime of admiring Marimekko’s Nordic minimalism and patterned playfulness, she’s exactly where she should be.

Digging up the Marikmekko archives to draw on classic designs and patterns, the SS16 collection is all about timelessness and practical wearability.

Expect garden-inspired, organic prints to feature and the addition of shoes, eyewear and new bag designs. It’s becoming pretty clear Marimekko’s revamp is all about channeling a more contemporary-mod aesthetic, and we love it.
