MONA FOMA has unveiled its full festival lineup for 2017

Mona Foma festival has lifted the lid off its full summer lineup, featuring a slew of first-rate acts, art, world premieres and sounds. 

Mofo 2017 begins with the Australian premiere and exclusive, Peaches Christ Superstar, in which multi-faceted artist Peaches performs the 1970’s Andrew Lloyd Webberrock opera as a one-woman show. 
 
Mona’s outdoor stage will host the Australian exclusive, world premiere of tētēma, the latest project from renowned experimental composer Anthony Pateras with Faith No More frontman Mike Patton in his only Australian show, as well as Puscifer.
 
More highlights include sets from DJ Z-Trip, Moses Sumney, Pantha du Prince, Circuit des Yeux, Mdou Moctar, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Kelsey Lu, Veronique Serret, Nadia Ratsimandresy, Alim Qasimov Ensemble and Okkyung Lee.
 
In a special collaboration, rock legends Regurgitator will re-interpret the classic Velvet Underground & Nico debut album with Seja on synth and Mindy Meng Wang on Chinese zither.  
 
Australian artists include celebrated singer/songwriter Kev Carmody, Rainbow Chan, All the Weathers, Danny Healy Trio, North of North, Hinterlandt, and Mofo’s experimental artists in residence Phil Dadson & Don McGlashan delivering workshops and interactive performances all over the museum site. 
 
Avant-garde performance opera collective Foundation IHOS Amsterdam will premiere a new work, Before the Flame Goes Out, Memorial to the Jewish Martyrs of Ioannina, Greece (Dedicated to those whose names are remembered by the few) by Constantine Koukias, incorporating the Byzantine sounds of Greece merged with Ottoman and Jewish musical traditions, interpreted as a contemporary composition. 
 
Mona’s new major exhibition On the Origin of Art continues throughout Mofo, in which four world-renowned scientists and evolutionary theorists join the Mona team to explore the universal human drivers behind why we make art.
 
Further art projects include a synthesiser created from body cells, virtual reality experiences, interactive synths, amplified salt, watertanks as sound art, plus a whole lot more. 
 
It all culminates in a wild Weekend at Walshy’s event, as music and art occupy the largest private museum in the Southern Hemisphere.
