Book review: Adult Fantasy

For anyone who’s entered adulthood and wondered, is this it?

Briohny Doyle has pretty much summed it up for anyone who’s entered adulthood and wondered, is this it?

Adult Fantasy is Doyle’s own exploration into what it means to be an ‘adult’ where one’s life is devoid of traditional markers that signify they’ve grown up. You know, career job, marriage, mortgage, kids.

Beyond echoing the popular laments of the sub-thirties, Doyle points to political, social, economic and historical evidence to back it up.

She shares data. She tells stories. She proffers solutions. She highlights confusion. She is sympathetic to Baby Boomers where many assign blame. She recognises her lens is one of privilege.

And while at times she can sound a little whiny, her arguments are compelling.
